United in Compassion (UIC)
The foremost and most high-profile charities/pressure groups at work in the field. Founded by Lucy Haslam, mother of Dan Haslam who campaigned to be able to use cannabis legally to assist with effects of chemotherapy treatment. UIC has run symposia on medicinal cannabis and opened a research centre and cannabis farm in New South Wales.
Medical Cannabis Users Association of Australia (MCUA) Pressure group ‘established to provide Australians a collective voice to challenge outdated opinions and attitudes concerning the Cannabis plant, and to educate and inform policy-makers of the abundant existent scientific evidence that the cannabis plant has proven medicinal and therapeutic value, as well as nutritional and dietary supplemental benefits’.  Also has very active Facebook page.

Medical Cannabis KidsFacebook-based organisation launched by Tasmanian mother and activist Nicole Cowles for parents and carers of children for whom cannabis is used as a therapy.

Green PartyParty helped support and initiate medical cannabis conversation in Australia and at State and Territory level. It’s head, Senator Richard Di Natale sponsored Regulator of Medicinal Cannabis Bill in 2014 which was never enacted and replaced by the Narcotic Drugs Amendment Act in February 2016.

Hemp PartyThe ‘Help End Marijuana Prohibition Party’, founded in Nimbin, NSW, an alternative community long defying the law on cannabis. Website has much information including about medical uses of the herb.

Australian Drug Law Reform FoundationThe Australian Drug Law Reform Foundation exists to encourage a more rational, tolerant and humanitarian approach to the problems created by drugs and drug use in Australia.President is physician Dr Alex Wodak Director of the Alcohol and Drug Service at Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital and a vocal supported of medicinal cannabis.

Drug Policy AustraliaDrug Policy Australia is a public health NGO primarily concerned with promoting new approaches to minimise the health risks and other harms caused by the use of both licit and illicit Drugs which affects the wellbeing of all Australians. Supports legalisation of cannabis generally but also medicinal cannabis.

Cancer Voices AustraliaVoluntary advocacy group for cancer sufferers. Opposed Regulator of Medicinal Cannabis Bill. Supports further research.

Medicines AustraliaIndustry body representing interests of Australian pharmaceutical businesses. Opposed idea of stand-alone new Regulator as proposed by the Regulator of Medicinal Cannabis Bill in 2014/15.
